Panther Men End Regular Season With Setback at No. 4 Amherst

The Middlebury men's tennis team concluded the regular-season portion of its schedule with a 6-3 road loss Saturday at No. 4 Amherst (15-3, 7-1) at the Ludlow Tennis Center. The sixth-ranked Panthers (18-3, 7-1) return to the courts next weekend when they host the NESCAC Championships on the Proctor Tennis Courts.

During doubles play, the Panthers grabbed the first point when the No. 3 team of Andre Xiao and Nate Eazor defeated Damien Ruparel and William Turchetta by an 8-1 score. The hosts tallied an 8-4 win in the top spot, followed by an 8-6 triumph one spot below for a 2-1 lead.

In singles action, the Mammoths posted straight-set wins at No. 1 and No. 3 for a 4-1 advantage. Lubomir Cuba tallied a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Kevin Ma, while Stanley Morris was victorious by scores of 7-5, 6-3 at the bottom of the lineup to move the Panthers to within one at 4-3.

Amherst concluded the match with three-set victories at No. 5 and No. 4 for the final 6-3 score.
