The #19 Middlebury men's tennis team excelled while handling hosting duties for the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional Championships. Noah Lewis secured a spot in the "A" singles final, while Nikky Kondamuri made a run to the semifinals in the "B" bracket.

SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS

• Lewis, Arjun Reiland, Thehan Wijemanne and Hayden Williams each won their respective opening matches in the A draw in straight sets.
• Eighth-seeded Lewis continued his march in the round of 32. The Panther dropped the opening set by a 6-2 score against Sourish Gadhi of Babson before grabbing the second set 7-5. He closed out Gadhi via a 10-4 win in the third-set superbreaker. 
• Reiland pulled off a 6-3, 6-1 upset of William Luke of Williams before falling in straight sets to second-seeded Garv Bahl.
• Lewis matched up with Kaetan Mehta of Tufts in the round of 16. He shook off a 6-2 loss in the opener with back-to-back 6-1 and 6-3 decisions to punch his ticket to the quarterfinals.
• The Panther dispatched Cameron Zia of Bowdoin (7-5, 6-2) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Gary Jiang (6-2, 6-2) before falling in straight sets to Bahl in the final.
• Five Middlebury athletes represented the navy and white in the B draw. Henry Groves, Kondamuri, Anand Sahasrabudhe and Justin Zhou each won their round of 64 matches, while Andrew Yim earned a bye.
• Groves, Kondamuri, Sahasrabudhe and Yim each punched their tickets to the round of 16. Kondamuri needed to battle in his match, knocking off Kaden Chen of MIT with a marathon 8-7 (8-6) triumph. 
• All three Panthers battled in their next matches. Groves went back-and-forth against second-seeded Nico Tremblay but ultimately fell in straight sets, while Kondamuri cruised to the quarters with his 6-2, 6-4 victory over Amherst's Andy Lee. Sahasrabudhe's match against Babson's Andre Ziskind went the distance, but the sophomore stood strong and pulled out the three-set marathon (7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 10-7) before withdrawing.
• In the 'B' semifinals, Kondamuri met Tremblay with a spot in the title match on the line. The Panther put together a strong match, but Tremblay logged a 6-4, 7-5 decision.

DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS

• Williams and Reiland logged an 8-5 win over David Wang and Huasen Dong of Brandeis before dropping a hard-fought 8-7 (7-4) to the sixth-seeded Bates pairing of Phillippe Kosyagin and Tair Sarmanov.
• The pairing of Yim and Kondamuri upset a pair of seeded opponents to make it to the quarterfinals. Yim and Kondamuri battled with the second-seeded tandem of Stavros Mastrogamvrakis and Tremblay of Tufts but ultimately fell 8-7 (8-6).

NOTES

• Kondamuri claimed his 25th career singles triumph.

The Panthers are idle next weekend before wrapping up their fall schedule at the Skidmore Open, which begins on Saturday, October 10 in Saratoga Springs.
