Panther Men Fall to Division I UC Irvine

The Middlebury men's tennis team saw its 12-match unbeaten streak dating back to last spring come to an end on Monday, falling 6-1 to Division I UC Irvine at the Anteater Tennis Stadium. The second-ranked Panthers (7-1) return to the courts on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. match at Division II Azusa Pacific.

Utilizing Division I rules where you must win two of the three flights in order to secure the doubles point, the Anteaters won in the top spot by a 6-2 score. Middlebury's No. 2 tandem of Noah Farrell and Peter Martin tallied a 6-4 victory over Mason Hansen and Daniel Gealer. Coming down to the third flight, UC Irvine recorded a 6-4 triumph to garner the doubles point.

During singles play, the hosts rattled off the first four matches to finish for a 5-0 victory and clinched the win. Middlebury's point in the match came from Adam Guo at No. 5, as Guo was victorious by a 7-6 (5), 6-1 score over Aaron Bailey.

The Anteaters won the final spot to finish at No. 4 for the final 6-1 score.
