Morris Edged in ITA Cup Singles National Title Match

Middlebury sophomore Stanley Morris battled for three sets, but fell in the Division III singles national title match to Boris Sorkin of Tufts at the ITA Cup on Saturday. Morris was the third Panther to reach the national title match. The three-day event featured Division II, Division III, NAIA and Junior College participants was held at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.

In the final, Morris dropped the opening set to Sorkin by a 7-6 score, but evened the match with a 6-3 win in set two. The decisive set saw Sorkin post a 6-1 victory for the title. Morris ran his fall record to an impressive 11-3 despite Saturday's setback to Sorkin.

The championship was a rematch of the ITA New England Regional final in which Sorkin edged Morris. He earned a spot in this weekend's tournament via his runner-up finish during the ITA New England Regional Championship hosted by Colby.
