Middlebury sophomore Stanley Morris posted a pair of victories on Thursday at the ITA Cup in the Division III singles bracket. Morris is the third Panther to reach the semifinal round in the tournament over the last five years, joining Noah Farrell (2015) and Lubomir Cuba (2016). The three-day event featuring Division II, Division III, NAIA and Junior College participants is being held at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
Unseeded in the 16-man singles draw, Morris began his run by easing past Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez of Rensselaer in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Later in the day during the quarterfinal round, he outlasted James Hopper from Case Western Reserve in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-4).
Morris advances to Friday's semifinal round where he will play No. 3 seed Jack Katzman from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 9:00 a.m.
Morris earned a spot in this weekend's tournament via his runner-up finish during the ITA New England Regional hosted by Colby.
