Box Score 2 The Middlebury women's volleyball team concluded its opening weekend splitting two matches on Saturday at the Wheaton Invitational. The Panthers eased past Farmingdale State in the day's first match by a 3-0 tally (25-10, 25-13, 25-6), while the host Lyons earned a four-set triumph over Middlebury in the day's second contest (17-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18). The Panthers return to action on Tuesday with a 6:00 p.m. match at Plymouth State.
For her efforts, Chellsa Ferdinand was named to the all-tournament team. She handed out 62 assists to go along with 14 kills and four service aces.
Against Farmingdale State (1-7), Isabel Sessions paced the Panthers with 14 kills to go with 12 digs, while Sarah Staver had 13 kills on 18 attempts with just one error for a .667 hitting percentage. Gigi Alper and Shea Golden led all players with 15 digs apiece, while Claire White-Dzuro tacked on 11. Emma Walsh directed Middlebury's attack with 27 assists.
As a team, the Panthers tallied a .278 hitting percentage over the three sets, while limiting the Rams to a -.051 mark.
In the final match against Wheaton (6-1), Staver tallied 13 kills, while Sessions was also in double figures with 11. Alper recorded team-best marks of 23 digs and three service aces, while White-Dzuro had 16. Sessions rounded out her double-double with 14, while Ferdinand handed out 28 assists to go along with six kills and 15 digs.
