Cuba & Schlanger Move On to NCAA Doubles Semifinals

Playing in the NCAA Doubles Tournament on Friday, Middlebury men's tennis players Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger advanced to Saturday's semifinal with a straight-set victory in their quarterfinal contest. Matches are being held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.

During Friday's quarterfinal, Cuba and Schlanger won the first four games en route to a 6-1 victory in the first set against Caltech's Varun Shanker and James Wei. Cuba and Schlanger, the top seed in the draw, scored four of the final five points of the second-set tiebreaker for a 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory.

The Middlebury duo will play the Wabash tandem of Patrick McAuley and William Reifes on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Little Giant team moved into the semifinals with a three-set win against Bates' Jacob Kauppila and Ben Rosen (6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (5)).
