The Middlebury men's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory on Tuesday at No. 14 Pomona-Pitzer at the Pauley Tennis Complex in Claremont, California. The fourth-ranked Panthers improve to 8-1 and return to the courts Wednesday for a 1:00 p.m. match against NAIA foe Hope International.
The Panthers took all three doubles points against the Sagehens (11-6). The tandem of William de Quant and Nate Eazor picked up the first point with an 8-4 victory in the second spot over Marko Mandic and Avery Bicks. Lubomir Cuba and Kyle Schlanger made it a 2-0 Panther lead with an 8-5 win at No. 1 against Kaylan Chadalavada and Octave Bellet, while the Panther duo of Timo van der Geest and Peter Martin completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory over Sam Gearou and Jack Bernstein in the third spot.
During singles action, Cuba picked up the Panthers' fourth point with a 6-2, 6-1 score at No. 1 against Jed Kronenberg. Schlanger clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Bellet in the second spot.
In the No. 5 flight, Andre Xiao earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sam Malech, while van der Geest made it a 7-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph against Mandic. Alex Vanezis tallied the final Panther point, posting a 6-1, 0-6, 10-1 victory against Jacob Schoenherr.
The Sagehens scored their lone point of the match when Josh Gearou edged Eazor in the third spot by scores of 6-3, 7-6 (3).
