Box Score Middlebury outscored Skidmore (2-7) 20-6 in the second quarter, on its way to a 71-45 win over the Thoroughbreds on Saturday in Pepin Gym. The Panthers complete the first semester with a perfect 8-0 record and will return to action on December 29th when they host Keene State at 2:00 p.m. Skidmore will entertain Vassar on December 12th with a 5:00 p.m. start.
Middlebury jumped out to an 11-2 lead on 5-5 shooting early on. Leading 15-7, the Panthers saw Skidmore run off nine of the next 11 points to make it a 17-16 game at the 1:36 mark. Alex Huffman scored late in the quarter, as the Panthers led 19-16 after 10 minutes of play.
Middlebury held a 21-20 advantage at the 7:48 mark of the second quarter before outscoring its opponents 18-2 in the remainder of the half. Catherine Harrison scored six points during the run, as the hosts took a 39-22 lead into the halftime break.
Skidmore cut the deficit to 17 (43-26) on a layup from Jessica Centore at the 7:33 mark of the third quarter, but that's as close as they'd come. The Panthers led 56-33 after 30 minutes and extended their lead to as many as 29 (64-35) on a hoop from Michaela Sullivan with 5:01 left to play, cruising to the win.
Harrison led the Panthers with 16 points and nine rebounds on 6-8 shooting from the floor. Colleen Caveney scored 10, while Davis finished with nine points and 11 boards. Huffman scored nine, pulled down nine boards and earned four steals in the win. Kira Waldman finished the game with five points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Centore led all scorers with 18 points, to go along with four assists and four steals.
