The Middlebury volleyball team swept host Colby-Sawyer (25-16, 25-16, 25-16) in straight sets on Wednesday evening in the Coffin Field House. The Panthers (15-5) return to action on Friday with a home NESCAC contest against Hamilton at 7:00 p.m., while the Chargers (17-10) host Plymouth State tomorrow night.

The visitors jumped out to an 8-2 lead on a kill by Sarah Staver. That advantage grew to as many as 10 at 18-8 on a Charger attack error. Colby-Sawyer pulled back to within five (20-15) on a kill from Courtney Murray, but the Panthers scored five of the final six points for a 25-16 win.

Trailing 8-6 in set number two, the visitors rattled off an 8-1 run for a 14-9 edge on a kill by Staver. The Chargers sliced the deficit to three at 15-12 via a kill from Naarah Cox. Middlebury tallied four of the next five points and cruised to the 25-16 victory for a 2-0 lead. Corley Doyle capped the set for the Panthers with a kill, marking the second time in as many sets she completed the scoring with a kill.

During a back-and forth third set with Middlebury clinging to a 13-12 edge, the Panthers put together a 6-0 run to grab a 19-12 advantage on a kill by Shea Golden. The Chargers tallied the next two points to pull to within five, but kills by Beth Neal, Golden and Staver increased the lead and secured the sweep.

Golden led Middlebury with 10 kills and added 13 digs for her second double-double in as many matches, while Staver added nine kills and Doyle chipped in with eight. Emma Walsh handed out 21 assists in her two sets of action, while Gigi Alper had a team-high 14 digs and Ali Wheeler added 12. Doyle finished the contest with three block assists.

Colby-Sawyer was paced by Cox with nine kills, while Murray tacked on five. Anna Allen recorded 19 assists for the Chargers, while Morgan Flynn dug up 14 balls. Cox recorded two solo blocks and three block assists for the hosts.
