The Middlebury men's tennis team concluded the regular-season portion of its schedule with a 6-3 road triumph on Sunday over #8 Amherst (22-4, 6-2). The match took place at the Amherst Tennis Courts. The top-ranked Panthers (17-2, 7-1) close the regular-season slate winners of nine of their last 10 matches, and return to the courts next weekend at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Williams.

During doubles play, the Panthers were victorious in two of the three matches. The No. 3 Mammoth duo of Andrew Arnaboldi got the hosts on the board with an 8-4 win over Middlebury's Timo van der Geest and Peter Martin. The visitors tied the score at 1-1 when Hamid Derbani and Kyle Schlanger recorded an 8-4 victory against Oscar Burney and Josh Marchalik in the second spot. The No. 1 flight of Lubomir Cuba and William de Quant battled back and forth with the Amherst pair of Zach Bessette and Jayson Fung, forcing a seven-point tiebreaker. Bessette and Fung grabbed the first four points, but Cuba and de Quant responded by scoring seven-consecutive points, giving Middlebury a 2-1 advantage.

In singles action, Cuba claimed the team's third point at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Bessette, while de Quant made a 4-1 Panther edge with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the second flight over Marchalik. Fung pulled the hosts to within two with a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-0 triumph over Schlanger at No. 4. Derbani clinched the match at No. 3 with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5) win against Gabe Owens.

At No. 5, van der Geest tallied the sixth Panther point with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Jesse Levitin, while Nathan Kaplan posted the third Mammoth point over Middlebury's Allen Jackson at No. 6 (7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-8).
