Box Score In a battle of two teams ranked in the top 10 nationally, #5 St. Lawrence held on for an 11-10 win over 10th-ranked Middlebury in Canton, New York. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Wesleyan in a NESCAC contest at 2:00 p.m.
Trailing 1-0, Middlebury reeled off three-straight goals to take the lead, including a man-up tally from Chase Goree. St. Lawrence answered with a pair as the game was tied at 3-3 after one quarter.
The Saints scored the first goal of the second quarter, with the teams alternating the next six goals, with a man-up tally from St. Lawrence's Andrew Jarrett closing the half.
Trailing 6-5 at the intermission, Jake Schneider knotted game for Middlebury at 6-6 just 1:21 into the third quarter. The Saints followed with a 3-0 run, including the first goal of the fourth quarter for a 9-6 lead.
The Panthers responded with a flurry, netting the game's next four goals in a 4:07 span, to go on top 10-9. A.J. Kucinski opened the run before finding Henry Riehl 15 seconds later after a face-off win from Jack DeFrino. Harry Giarrusso tied the game at 9-9 before a goal from Jack Gould gave the visitors at 10-9 lead with 7:43 remaining.
St. Lawrence tied the game on its ensuing possession, before going on top at the 3:45 mark on a tally form Jordan Dow.
DeFrino won the ensuing faceoff, as the Panthers took a timeout to set up a game-tying goal. The teams each turned the ball over twice, before Middlebury took a timeout with possession and 25 seconds on the clock. Riehl got a shot off that went wide, while Kucsinki's shot with seven seconds left was saved, as the Saints held on for the win.
Kucinski finished with two goals and two assists for the Panthers, while Schneider scored twice. Jake Madnick finished with five ground balls, DeFrino had four, while Clay Hunt caused three turnovers. Will Ernst made seven saves and allowed six goals in the first half, while Will Perry stopped six shots and gave up five goals in second-half action.
Jarrett's two goals and two assists paced St. Lawrence, while Conor Healey scored twice. Alex Terry finished with six saves between the pipes for the Saints.
