McGean Lowers Own School Mark on Day Two of NESCAC Meet

Fueled by a school-record performance from Michael McGean on Saturday evening, Middlebury continued action on the second day of the 2017 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship inside the Wesleyan Natatorium. Williams continue to lead the way (1,145 points), while Amherst (1,049) and Tufts (1,008) round out the top three. The Panthers move up to eighth place with 411.5 points.

In the night's first individual final, McGean touched the wall with a runner-up finish in the 1,000 free, lowering his own school-record time to 9:24.94. That time betters his previous mark set during last year's NESCAC Championship by 7.41 seconds.

The 200-medley relay team of Brendan Leech, Stefan Pla, Will Pannos and Noel Antonisse started things off during the evening session with a ninth-place finish in 1:35.26. During the evening's final event, the 800-freestyle relay quartet of Nick Schrope, Connor McCormick, McGean and Jack Dowling swam to a fifth-place finish in a time of 6:56.47.

The Panthers conclude the championship Sunday with morning preliminaries scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., and the finals session starting at 5:15 p.m. with the 1,650 freestyle.
