Panthers Compete on Day One of NESCAC Championship

Middlebury took part in the first day of the 2017 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championships held inside the Wesleyan Natatorium. Williams leads the team standings with 643 points, while Amherst is second with 547 points and Tufts (542) sits right behind in third. The Panthers sit in 10th place with 165 points.

In the evening's first individual championship final, Stefan Pla touched the wall in eighth place with a time of 26.64 in the 50 breaststroke.

During the 500 free, Michael McGean tallied a third-place effort, finishing the event in 4:35.21. In his morning preliminary swim, he posted the quickest time in the event with an NCAA 'B' cut mark of 4:33.71.

The Panthers had both relays disqualified during the opening evening's session for separate infractions.

On the diving board during Friday's one-meter final, Mike Chirico improved upon his morning preliminary score by more than 27 points, accumulating 437.00 points for a third-place finish and an NCAA 'B' cut tally.

The Panthers return for day two of the championship Saturday with the morning preliminaries scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., while the finals session will start at 6:00 p.m.
