Men's Tennis Competes at Princeton's Farnsworth Invitational

The Middlebury men's tennis team was the lone Division III team to compete in the Farnsworth Invitational hosted by Princeton at the Lenz Tennis Center. A total of 14 schools were represented in the tournament with 13 Division I schools along with Middlebury. Four singles brackets as well as two doubles brackets were contested. After the first round of play in each bracket, consolation backdraws also took place. 

In the C singles draw, Peter Martin fared well winning three matches before losing in the semifinals. He defeated Lehigh's Chris Auteri (2-6, 6-2, 10-3) and Drexel's Xandy Hammitt (5-7, 7-6 (3), 10-8). During his quarterfinal match, he edged Columbia's Taiya Hamanka (7-6 (4), 6-2), but lost to Princeton's Kabir Sarita in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).

Nate Eazor also took part in the C singles draw for the Panthers. He cruised past NJIT's Pablo Arrutia (6-2, 6-3) and St. John's Ognjen Trejgut (6-0, 6-3), but saw his tournament come to an end with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-6 setback to NJIT's Zachary Castagna. Weston Brach edged Fairleigh Dickinson's Maciej Autuch (7-6 (5), 7-5) before losing to Lehigh's Mark Wallner (7-6 (4), 6-1).

In the A singles draw, William de Quant picked up an opening-round win with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Drexel's Hamza Laalej. In the next round, de Quant dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to eventual champion Aswin Lizen of Virginia. In the consolation bracket, de Quant took a vacant spot and picked up a trio of victories. He won his first match by forfeit followed by a 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 win over Jan Leithner of Hofstra. The next round saw de Quant post a 6-4, 6-3 win over Thomas Sevel of Temple as the final went unplayed due to weather.

Adam Guo earned two victories in the D singles main draw. He defeated Fairleigh Dickinson's Miki Nobuzawa (2-6, 7-5, 10-4) and Marist's Jan Dernic (6-3, 6-0), before falling to St. John's Federico Ruiz Acevedo in straight sets (6-2, 6-4).

In doubles play, the team of Andre Xiao and de Quant had a bye in the first round of the A flight before picking up an 8-3 victory over Marist's Chris Gladden and Carlos Moreno. In the semifinals, the Panther pair was edged by Bernard Tefel and Sinan Orhon of Drexel, 8-6. Kyle Schlanger and Timo van der Geest tallied an 8-3 win in the opening round over Lehigh's George Cooper and Bryant Born, before losing to Columbia's Rian Pandole and Michal Rolski, 8-5.

The B doubles team of Eazor and Alex Vanezis lost their first match, sending them into the consolation bracket. The pair recorded an 8-5 victory against St. John's Ognjen Trejgut and Andrei Crapcenco before edging the Fairleigh Dickinson duo of Moric Budinszky and Billy Bourne, 9-7 as the final went unplayed due to weather.
