The Middlebury women's golf team placed third at the Vassar College Invitational, finishing the two-day tournament with a combined score of 678 (335-343). Williams won the event with a low score of 627 (322-305), while Amherst was second at 649 (322-327). The event featured 12 teams competing at the par 72, 5,849 yard Casperkill Golf Club in Poughkeepsie, New York. The Panthers return to action next weekend for the two-day Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst.
For the second-straight day, Monica Chow led the Panthers and shot an 81, giving her a two-day total of 160 to place sixth. Katharine Fortin moved up two spots from the opening day, carding her second-straight round of 85 to finish tied for 14th at 170. Helen Dailey tied for 20th place with a 173 (84-89) and Lilia Everson tied for 29th with a 178 (90-88). Hope Matthews was the final Panther to score, tying for 33rd at 180 (87-93).
Middlebury's Sarah Breckinridge, who played as an individual, finished in the top 35, completing the 36 holes with a score of 179 (92-87) to place 32nd.
Phoebe Mattana from Williams was the overall medalist, boasting a two-day score of 149 (75-74).
