The Middlebury men's and women's cross country teams each ran to runner-up team finishes on Saturday at the Connecticut College Invitational contested at Harkness Park. The ninth-ranked Panther women had 70 points out of 21 teams racing, finishing behind team champion Tufts with 63 points, while the 22nd-ranked men were second of 20 teams with 84 points, as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (79) garnered the team title.
In the men's race featuring 241 racers, Brian Rich earned the top Middlebury finish with a 12th-place effort in 25:12.3. Ascencion Aispuro was the next to cross just seconds behind Rich in 13th place (25:15.8), while Connor Evans was 15th with a time of 25:18.3. Brendan Wood and Kevin Serrao completed the scorers on the men's side in 17th (25:21) and 27th (25:42.6), respectively.
During the women's 6K race with 259 entries, Abigail Nadler led the field across the finish line with a winning time of 21:24.5, nearly 16 seconds faster than her closest competitor. Katherine MacCary was the next to end her race in seventh place (22:04.5), while Anna Willig stopped the clock in 22:28 for a 17th-place finish. Sasha Whittle crossed the line in 21st place with a mark of 22:35, while Meg Wilson completed the scorers in 24th place with a time of 22:41.5.
The Panthers will have two weeks off from competition before they take part on Saturday, October 29 in the NESCAC Championships hosted by Colby.
