Turnovers Cost Women's Basketball in Loss at Skidmore

The Middlebury women's basketball team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling by a score on 63-60 on the road at Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds (5-3) took advantage of 28 Panther turnovers converting them into 32 points on the afternoon. Middlebury returns to action next Saturday when it hosts Plattsburgh State in the team's home-opening game at 2:00 p.m.

Veronica Moceri broke a 58-58 tie with a clutch three-point field goal with 36 seconds left to play.  Middlebury cut the lead back to one, 61-60, on a pair of free throws by Catherine Harrison with 22.2 seconds left. The Panthers got the ball back following a turnover, but missed the ensuing layup. Kelly Donnelly came away with the rebound for the Thoroughbreds and calmly sank a pair of free throws with 8.7 seconds to play for the 63-60 final. Sarah Kaufman missed a deep three attempt for Middlebury at the buzzer.

Kaufman led the Panthers with 20 points and four assists, while Harrison had 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with four assists. Eileen Daley and Rachel Collins added nine points apiece.

Moceri led Skidmore with 14 points off the bench, while Donnelly and Amber Holgate added 11 points apiece. Donnelly added nine rebounds, while Haley English earned three assists and three steals.

The Thoroughbreds also dominated off the bench, outscoring Middlebury by a 28-6 count.
