The 10th-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team claimed all three doubles points en route to a 7-2 victory Friday over ninth-ranked Kenyon. The match was played indoors as part of the Emory Invitational at the Woodruff Physical Education Center. Middlebury improves to 7-1 and will square off with host and seventh-ranked Emory on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

In doubles, Middlebury grabbed all three points during a trio of highly-contested matches. At third doubles, Peter Heidrich and Ari Smolyar claimed the first point with an 8-5 victory over Tristan Kaye and Colin Haas. The 24th-ranked tandem of Alex Johnston and Andrew Lebovitz secured the second point for the Panthers with an 8-5 win against Sam Geier and Tim Rosensteel.

At second doubles, the third point was won by the nation's top-ranked team of Branter Jones and Palmer Campbell, who posted a narrow 8-6 win against Kenyon's Michael Razumovsky and Wade Heerboth.  

The singles' action featured six matches that went back and forth, as the Panthers claimed four points. At #1, Johnston was the first off the court and made it 4-0 in favor of Middlebury with a 6-3, 6-1 over Heerboth. At #3, Jones secured the team victory despite losing the first set 6-3, but rebounded with 6-2 and 7-5 scores for the win against Geier, the nation's fourth-ranked player. Smolyar made the score 6-0 in favor of Middlebury with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #5.

The Lords (10-5) grabbed their two points of the match at #4 when Rosensteel defeated Courtney Mountifield by scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), and at #2 where Razumovsky, an NCAA quarterfinalist last spring, picked up a 6-7 (7-4), 6-0, 6-1 victory over the nation's 18th-ranked player in Campbell. Jackson Frons rounded out the scoring for the Panthers at #6 with a marathon 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 10-8 win over Nick Flaschetti.
