Box Score Third-ranked Plattsburgh (8-1) took home third-place honors at the 17th-annual PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout with a 4-2 victory over host Middlebury (1-3-2). Concordia won the tournament in a shootout after a 2-2 tie with Norwich in the title game. Middlebury's Ronald Fishman was named to the all-tournament team. The Panthers return to action on Friday night when they host Amherst at 7:00 p.m.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead 10:34 into the game when Kevin Emmerling sent a puck in front that deflected in off a defender.
Plattsburgh went up 2-0 in the second when Dillan Fox took advantage of a failed poke check and found the back of the net at the 12:51 mark. Exactly three minutes later, Mark Constantine found Connor Green for a quick redirect as the Cardinals went up 3-0 with a power play goal.
The lead grew to 4-0 in the third as Anthony Calabrese intercepted the pass and quickly found Michael Cassidy for the one-touch finish.
The Panthers battled back, getting on the board less than a minute later when Jake Charles tipped in a blast from Max Greenwald on the power play. Middlebury struck again with another power play goal less than two minutes later, this time, with Vincent Gisonti putting home a rebound.
The Panthers continued with pressure down the stretch, but could get no closer. Plattsburgh held a 39-26 shots advantage in the game as Spencer Finney made 24 saves in goal to pick up the win. Middlebury's Stephen Klein made 35 stops in his collegiate debut.
