The Middlebury cross country teams participated at the Albany Invitational on Saturday, competing against teams from Divisions I and III. Both Panther squads won their respective races, as the third-ranked women were first among 10 teams. The Middlebury men, ranked 12th nationally, were the top finishers among nine squads competing.
Alison Maxwell covered the course in 18:30.9, good for a sixth place overall. Middlebury then comprised places 9-14 in the race, with only four of them needing to score. Earning top-10 finishes were Summer Spillane and Erzie Nagy. Spillane finished with a time of 18:39.7, while Nagy wasn't far behind in 18:44.9. Next was Katie Carlson in 11th place in 18:45, followed by Adrian Walsh, who placed fifth in 18:46.8. Though not scoring, Olivia Artaiz (18:48.5) and Caroline Guiot (18:49.5) placed 13th and 14th, respectively.
Wilder Schaaf paced the Panther men with a third-place overall finish with a time of 25:41.8. Coming in fifth was Sebastian Matt in 25:51.3, followed by Kevin Wood in seventh place (25:54.2). Sam Klockenkemper was fourth on the team and 10th in the race with a time of 25:59.7, while Jacob Fox rounded out the Middlebury scorer's with an 18th-place finish (26:15.8).
The teams are now idle until they play host to the NESCAC Championships on November 1. The men's race will begin at noon, while the women will start at 1:00 p.m.
