The Middlebury men's tennis team took part in the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates over the weekend. Four singles flights and two doubles flights were contested, with four Panthers advancing to the finals. Middlebury returns to action from October 24-26 at the Boston University Tournament hosted by Tufts.
In the "A" singles flight, Ari Smolyar took home the title with four victories. The junior was the top seed in the flight, defeating second-seeded Carl Reid of Colby 6-1, 6-2 in the finals.
The "C" singles flight saw Allen Jackson pick up a pair of straight-set wins before bowing out 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the semifinals.
Middlebury boasted three players advancing to the semifinal round in flight "C". William de Quant took home the title, topping teammate Peter Heidrich, 6-3, 6-2. Heidrich advanced to the finals with a 6-0, 3-6, 12-10 win over teammate Chris Frost in the semis.
In doubles play, Palmer Campbell and Noah Farrell moved into the semifinals of flight "A" with a pair of wins before falling, 9-7.
The "B" flight saw de Quant and Frost pick up three victories before being defeated 8-6 in the championship match.
