Men's Tennis Wins NCAA Regional

The Middlebury men's tennis team won an NCAA Regional on Proctor Courts, topping Johns Hopkins 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers (20-4) advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 20th at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Blue Jays end their season with a record of 20-3.

Middlebury took a commanding 3-0 lead after doubles play, needing just two singles victories to clinch the match. Brantner Jones and Teddy Fitzgibbons earned an 8-3 win over Nicholas Garcia and Noah Joachim at #2 to start the day, while Spencer Lunghino and Palmer Campbell were 8-6 winners at #3 over Andy Hersh and Jeff Kamei. The lead grew to 3-0 when  Alex Johnston and Andrew Lebovitz topped Tanner Brown and Erik Lim 8-6 in the #1 slot.

Johns Hopkins earned a point at #3 singles, when Ben Hwang earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Campbell. Middlebury increased its lead to 4-1 when Courtney Mountifield was a 6-4, 6-2 victor over Sam Weissler. Jones clinched the victory at #2 singles, topping Hersh, 6-3, 6-3.
