Middlebury had little trouble with Drew, picking up a 5-0 victory over the Rangers (12-7) in an indoor match played in Nelson Arena. The Panthers advanced to take on Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Regional Final on Sunday at noon.
Middlebury jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play, dropping just seven games. Spencer Lunghino and Palmer Campbell were 8-1 winners over Tommy Butuschi and Vin Mahon at #3 to start things off. Brantner Jones and Teddy Fitzgibbons earned an 8-4 victory over Hunter Lathrop and Matt Imbo in the #2 slot to make it an 8-4 match. The lead grew to 3-0 when Alex Johnston and Andrew Lebovitz topped Raul Smego and Djedjy Hill 8-2 at #1.
Lunghino earned his second win of the day, defeating Imbo 6-2, 6-1 at #4 singles to put his team one win away from clinching the match. Jones sealed the win at #2, topping Lathrop 6-1, 6-0. Johnston and Campbell had taken the first set at #1 and #3 respectively, both leading 5-0 in the second set.
