Women's Basketball Drops Road Game

Middlebury dropped a 71-62 non-league road win at Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday night. The Chargers won their eighth straight game to improve to 11-4, while the Panthers fell to 8-7. The win avenges a 59-48 loss to Middlebury on the opening weekend of the season at the UMass.-Boston Tournament.

Middlebury was led by Tracy Borsinger, who scored a game best 21 points and pulled down a team-high nine caroms. Scarlett Kirk added 12 points. Laura Lowry was the third Panther to reach double-figures with 10 points.

The Chargers were led by Kelsey Cahill's fifth double-double of the season with a team-best 15 points and game-high 13 rebounds. Sammi Lehr also recorded a double-double of 13 points and 11 boards. She was 6-7 from the floor. Taylor DeSanty added 13 points, while Cailin Bullett had 11 points and a game-high eight assists.

The Chargers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game and held the visitors scoreless until the 16:11 mark when Borsinger connected on a trey. Colby-Sawyer's biggest lead of nine came at the 13:26 mark after a three-pointer from DeSanty made it 12-3. The Panthers were able to cut the deficit to four points on a couple of occasions, but Colby-Sawyer was able to hold a 26-21 lead at the break. DeSanty led all players with nine first half points. Cahill pulled down eight of her 13 rebounds in the first. Middlebury shot just 22.6% from the floor, but was able to stay close after forcing 13 Colby-Sawyer turnovers.

Colby-Sawyer shot 62.1% in the second half, but Middlebury was able to keep within striking distance thanks to 7-12 on three-point shooting. The Panthers got as close as three points, before the home team stretched the advantage to the largest margin of the game, 71-57 with 1:23 left after a 7-1 spurt.

Middlebury was 9-21 from beyond the arc. Colby-Sawyer held a 41-30 edge on the glass, while the Panthers finished the game with 20 points off of turnovers.

Colby-Sawyer resumes North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday with a 1:00 pm tip at New England College. Middlebury will play New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Hamilton on Friday at 8:00 pm.
