Middlebury Invitational Comes To An End

The Middlebury Invitational men's tennis tournament is complete with a pair of Panther rookies advancing to the finals of the "C" singles bracket. Ari Smolyer came from a set down to defeat classmate Allen Jackson 6-7 (5), 7-5, 10-4 to take the title.

In "A" singles play, first-year player Alex Johnston fell in the semifinal round to Rob Crampton of Bates, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Crampton and his teammate Matt Bettles will decide the "A" singles title at Bates next week.

Courtney Mountifield of Middlebury was defeated 5-7, 6-1, 10-6 to Musyoka Mbithi of Trinity in the semifinals of the "B" flight, while Allen Jackson topped teammate Will Oberrender 6-3, 6-4 in the "C" semifinals.

In doubles play, Alec Parower and Jack Welch fell 8-1 to the eventual champions in the "A" double flight.
