Swimming & Diving Opens Season At Conn. College

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams opened up their 2012-13 season with a meet at Connecticut College against the Camels and Tufts. The women defeated Tufts 159-134, while falling to Conn. 149-138. The men were defeated by Tufts 183-104, while dropping their contest with Conn., 179-99. 

Jamie Hillas (Woodbridge, Conn.) had a great opening weekend with a pair of wins and a second place finish. The sophomore won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.41) and 200 IM (2:13.35), while placing second in the 200 fly (1:01.23). Also earning a pair of wins was sophomore Maddy Berkman (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.), who captured both the 100 fly (59.81) and 200 fly (2:10.19). Sophomore Courtney Haron (N. Kingstown, R.I.) touched first in the 200 free (1:57.87), while first-year racer Madeline Pierce (Weston, Mass.) was a winner in the 200 backstroke (2:13.52). Senior Hannah King (Paget, Bermuda) won both the 1M (214.05) and 3M (208.15) diving competitions.

On the men's side, junior Ian Mackay (Vero Beach, Fla.) led the team with a first and second place finish. Mackay won the 100 fly with a time of 53.22, while placing second in the 50 free in 22.06. Also earning a second place finish was first-year racer Stephan Koenigsberger (New York, N.Y.), who did so with a time of 1:01.82 in the 100 breaststroke.
