The Middlebury women's basketball team suffered a 72-59 setback at the hands of Conn. College in NESCAC action on Friday night. The Camels (11-2, 2-1) post their eighth win in their last nine games, while the Panthers (3-9, 0-3) drop their sixth straight contest.  Middlebury will look for its first NESCAC win tomorrow at Wesleyan, while Conn. plays host to Williams.

After eight minutes of back-and-forth play, Conn. turned a 9-9 tie into a 20-9 lead, using an 11-0 run to grab control with 6:24 to play in the half. Middlebury pulled to within nine points after three points from Tracy Borsinger, but the Camels closed the half on a 10-4 run, leading 33-20 at the break.

Borsinger went on a tear to open the second half, collecting 12 straight points for Middlebury to cut the Conn. lead to 43-35 at 13:41. However, the Camels regained momentum, backed by seven points from Carlee Smith, taking a 59-42 lead with 8:34 to play. The Panthers narrowed the gap to 64-53 on a conventional three-point play from Scarlett Kirk, but Conn. got six points from Tara Gabelman over the final three minutes of play, holding on for the 72-59 victory.

For Conn., Jenn Shinall led three players in double figures, recording a 13-point, nine-rebound effort. Gabelman finished the game with 11 points, while Smith totaled 11 points and six assists in the victory.

Borsinger led Middlebury with a game and season-high 17 points, while Maddie Moreau added 11 points. Stephany Surrette tallied five points and eight rebounds, while Brittany Perfetti picked up five points and five assists.
