Volleyball Wins In Three Against Amherst

Middlebury won its only home NESCAC match of the season as the Panthers topped Amherst 3-0 (19, 18, 9) in Pepin Gym. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Keene State at 3:00, with an Amherst/Keene match-up preceding at noon.

Middlebury led for a majority of play, taking a 2-0 lead with 25-19 and 25-18 wins in the first two sets. The Panthers ran away with the third set, leading 16-6 before emerging with the 25-9 clincher.

Megan Jarchow led the Middlebury offense with 11 kills, followed by Sarah Studwell with eight and Amy Hart with six. Caitlin Barrett finished the match with 20 digs, followed by Jarchow with 10 and Julia Gibbs with 30 assists. Middlebury ended the night with 20 block assists, led by Elissa Goeke with seven and Gibbs with five. NESCAC Player of the year Jane Handel saw her first action of the season after entering the year with an injury.

Lauren Antion paced the Jeffs with eight kills, followed by Cristy Meier with seven and KC Kanoff with six. Kristin Keeno finished with 24 digs, while Callie Neilson had 25 assists.
