Women's Basketball Drops Opener At Swarthmore

The Middlebury women's basketball team opened up its season with a 64-50 loss at Swarthmore. The Panthers return to action at the tournament when they battle Wheelock in the consolation game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. 

Middlebury came out strong with a 13-6 lead at the 13:06 mark. Brittany Perfetti hit a two and a three during the opening run, with four points from Tracy Borsinger.

Leading 15-8, Middlebury saw Swarthmore go on an 18-0 run over the next 7:32 to take a 26-15 lead with 3:44 remaining in the half.

Middlebury trailed 27-21 at the intermission, cutting the lead to 27-23 on a hoop from Stephany Surrette. The Garnet responded with an 8-0 spurt to take a 35-23 advantage with 15:30 remaining. Middlebury pulled within six twice during the second half, but could get no closer as the Panthers suffered a 64-50 loss.

Perfetti paced the Panthers with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Maddie Moreau added nine points and four assists. Borsinger scored nine, Sarah Marcus netted eight, while Surrette had a dozen boards.

Katie Lytle led Swarthmore with 20 points, while Eliza Polli added 11.
