Siena Mamayek's layup with 1:34 remaining in overtime proved to be the winning bucket as WPI surprised previously unbeaten Middlebury, 67-65, in non-conference action Sunday. With the win, WPI improves to 7-3 while Middlebury drops its first game in seven outings this season.

In the first half, Lauren Hannmann scored 12 of WPI's first 19 points as they held a 19-14 advantage with 11:34 to go in the frame. Neither team would be up by more than six as the Engineers were up 39-33 at intermission.

The Crimson and Gray pushed the lead to seven on a jumper by Elle Fontaine at 16:55 for a 45-38 lead. Middlebury, led by five points from Brittany Perfetti, would chip away and eventually take the lead during a 16-9 run.

With 3.5 seconds to go in regulation, tied at 65-65, the Panthers failed to get a shot off sending the game into overtime.

Sophomore Cindy Chelius led WPI with 10 rebounds while adding 12 points for her first career double-double. Hannmann added a game-high 18 points for the Engineers as Fontaine pitched in with 13. Mamayek and Melissa Kuhn each posted eight points. The WPI defense forced 20 turnovers and amassed six blocks and nine steals.

For the Panthers, Lauren Sanchez and Stephany Surrette each notched a double-double in the effort. Sanchez would score 16 and pull down 11 boards while Surrette netted 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Maddie Moreau led the Middlebury scoring attack with 17 points.
