Men's Tennis Competes At ITAs

The Panther men's tennis team returned to action after a week off, taking part in the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Williams College. The tourney features a 64-man singles bracket and a 32-team doubles competition.

Senior Andy Peters (Baltimore, Md.) made a nice run in the singles bracket, advancing to the semifinal round before falling 7-5, 7-6 (2). He dropped just six games through his first two wins, earning a 6-2, 7-6(8) victory in the quarterfinals. Three other Panthers advanced to the round of 16 before being eliminated. Junior Derrick Angle (Troy, N.Y.), sophomore Chris Schlabach (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and first-year player Teddy Fitzgibbons (Mission Hills, Kan.) each picked up a pair of victories in singles play.

Peters and first-year player Brantner Jones (Winnetka, Ill.) were 8-3, 8-5 and 8-4 winners in doubles play, before falling in the semifinals by a score of 8-3. Seniors Jeronimo Riefkohl (Munich, Germany) and Mike Malhame (Douglaston, N.Y.) were victorious twice with 8-4 and 8-0 wins, before being eliminated in the quarterfinals, 8-3.
