The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams took on Amherst in their first home meet of the season on Saturday. The Panther men fell 190-105, while the women were defeated 186-111. First-year racer Andrea Tibbetts (Dover, Mass.) won three events for the women, earning a time of 58.72 in the 100 backstroke (NCAA "B" cut), while winning the 200 backstroke in 2:11.18. Tibbetts was also a member of the winning 400 free relay team.
Also winning for the women was sophomore Salena Casha (Andover, Mass.), who captured the 200 IM in 2:14.63. Other members of the winning 400 free relay team (3:12.45) were junior Katherine Loftus (Madison, Conn.), sophomore Nora Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and first-year racer Caroline Santinelli (Sudbury, Mass.).
Junior Nick Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) won a pair of events for the men, taking the 50 free in 21.40, while serving as the anchor for the winning 400 free (3:40.70) relay team. Joining him on that team were senior Jay Li (Las Flores, Calif.), sophomore Ethan Litman (Bethesda, Md.) and rookie Ian Mackay (Vero Beach, Fla.).
