Swimming & Diving Open Seasons

The men's and women's swimming and diving opened up their seasons with a meet at Conn. College vs. the Camels and Tufts, as well as a road meet on Sunday at Springfield. The women defeated Tufts, while falling to Conn. and Springfield, while the men dropped all three contests. 

First-year racers Andrea Tibbetts (Dover, Mass.) and Nick Keenan (Queensbury, N.Y.) were the only Panthers to win events on both days. Tibbetts won the 100 back both days, earning times of 59.57 and 59.52. Keenan won the 400 IM (4:24.13) on Saturday, while taking the 200 free (1:51.32) on Sunday. Middlebury's other winner against Tufts/Conn. was junior Katherine Loftus (Madison, Conn.), who captured the 1,000 free in 10:49.66.

Senior Jessie Ward (Pittsford, N.Y.) picked up a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.97) against Springfield, while sophomore Nora Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was victorious in the 200 free (2:01.20). Also placing first were first-year racers Rachel Curtiss (Brentwood, Tenn.) in the 50 back (29.58) and Alexandra Edel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) in the 100 IM (1:03.14).

Pacing the men on Sunday with wins were senior Matthew Vukich (Madison, Wis.) in the 50 (29.30) & 100 breast (1:03.42), senior John Dillon (Wellesley, Mass.) in the 100 fly (52.53) and 100 IM (55.51) and rookie Ian Mackay (Vero Beach, Fla.), who won the 50 free in 22.64.
