The Middlebury women's volleyball team saw its season come to an end as the Panthers fell 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 29-27) to UMass.-Boston in an NCAA second-round game at Springfield. Middlebury ends its season at 25-6, second most wins in school history. The Panthers also earned their first NCAA Tournament victory in '10, defeating Polytechnic 3-0 on Friday.

The match was a tight one, with both teams in all four sets throughout the match. Middlebury came out on top in the first set 25-20, before dropping a pair of tight sets, both by scores of 25-19, as the Beacons took a 2-1 lead. The Panthers had a few chances to put away the fourth set, but the set continued past 25, as UMB eventually pulled out the 29-27 win to claim the match.

Julia Gibbs led Middlebury with 15 kills, followed by Jane Handel with 14 and Whitney Bean with 11. Caitlin Barrett earned a team-high 25 digs, followed by Handel (17), Megan Jarchow (12) and Lauren Barrett (12), who added 44 assists.

C. Barrett earned All-Tournament team honors at the conclusion of the weekend.
