The Middlebury College men's tennis team opened up its spring season with several matches taking place in Vermont. The Panthers had little trouble on Saturday, defeating N.Y.U. and Brandeis 9-0, before earning an 8-1 win over Connecticut College. Middlebury remained strong on Saturday, earning a 9-0 NESCAC win over Bates.
A lengthy day on Saturday saw the fourth-ranked Panthers lose just one singles match as they cruised to three victories. Sunday's NESCAC contest against #21 Bates was much the same, as Middlebury earned a 9-0 win. Leading 3-0 after doubles play, junior Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) made it a 4-0 match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at #2 singles. It didn't take long for Middlebury to seal the victory, as junior Andrew Lee (Eden Prarie, Minn.) earned a 6-2, 6-3 win in the #3 slot. The Panthers went on to sweep the rest of the singles matches, not dropping a set on the afternoon.
