Volleyball Earns Split In Connecticut

The Middlebury volleyball team earned a weekend split in a pair of matches played at Connecticut College. On Friday night, the host school (13-3, 4-1) earned their fifth straight win with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) victory over the Panthers.

Jane Handel buried a team-high 10 kills to lead the visiting Panther offense. Caroline Cordle finished with seven digs for Middlebury, while Lauren Barrett had 23 assists in the match.

On Saturday, Middlebury (11-4, 2-2) displayed their resiliency in a five-game come from behind victory over Wesleyan University (8-10, 4-3). Game scores were 23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, and 15-12 in favor of the Panthers.

Handel earned her 23rd kill in the deciding game to secure the victory for Middlebury. Cordle pounded out 19 kills and added 18 digs en route to a double-double. Barrett racked up 52 assists in the victory, while Elissa Goeke had four blocks.
