The Panther swimming and diving teams hosted their first meet of the season as Amherst visited the Middlebury College natatorium. The Panther men were defeated 176-110, while the women fell 170-126.
Leading the Middlebury men was Zach Woods (Monroe, N.Y.), who picked up three wins on the day. The senior was victorious in the 100 back (53.15), 200 back (1:56) and the 200 IM (2:00.16). Earning a second place finish in the 100 fly (53.63) was rookie Kazu Asaga (Chappaqua, N.Y.), while sophomore Kevin Glatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) placed second in the 200 fly (2:03.29). Also earning second place finishes were senior Kevin O'Rourke (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) in the 200 free (1:46.60), junior Schuyler Beeman (Guildford, Conn.) in the 50 free (22.12) and sophomore Mac Staben (Lexington, Ky.) in the 1000 free (10:33.03).
On the women's side, sophomore Alyssa Ha (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) picked up wins in both the 100 breast (1:10.08) and the 200 IM (2:12.35). Also earning wins for the women were senior Catherine Suppan (Burlington, Vt.) in the 100 back (1:00.72) and sophomore Jessie Ward (Pittsford, N.Y.) in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.54). The 200 medley relay team comprised of Suppan, Ward, and sophomores Emily McDonald (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) and Annie Friedlander (Deephaven, Minn.) were victorious in 1:50.47. Winning both the 1M (234.38) and 3M (241.23) events on the afternoon was rookie diver Meagan Collins (Darien, Conn.).
Taking home a pair of second place finishes in the 50 free (24.64) and the 100 free (54.19) was McDonald, while sophomore Molly Eberhardt (Bellevue, Wash.) earned a second place finish in the 1000 free (11:07.05).
