Women's Basketball Tops Lyndon

Middlebury picked up its first win of the season the Panthers earned a 79-72 win over Lyndon State in the first-ever meeting between the schools. Middlebury forced 18 turnovers on the night, while shooting .455 from the floor.

Middlebury led 18-14 before a 17-4 run, sparked by seven points from Emily Johnson, gave the team a 35-18 lead with 6:30 left in the first half. The lead grew to as many as 18 before the Panthers took a 45-30 lead into the locker room.

Lyndon State chipped away, cutting the lead to 10 after a 7-0 run, making it a 52-42 game at the 15:01 mark. Middlebury held a double-digit lead for most of the second half, until the Hornets came within five on a pair of free throws from Elizabeth Hall with 39 seconds remaining. Johnson converted 4 of 6 free throws in the final 38 seconds to seal the victory.

Johnson led all scorers with 26 points on 9 of 17 shooting, while also dishing out four assists and earning four steals. Kaitlyn Fallon netted 14 on 7 of 9 shooting, Ashley Barron scored 12 with seven boards, while Allison Needham netted 10.

Sara Fetterhoff led Lyndon with 20 points on 9 of 13 shooting, Jen Stoddard-Imari scored 15, Hall netted 14, while Naomi White scored a dozen with a game-high 11 boards.
