3/29/05 - Despite some rain, the Middlebury College men's tennis team got four matches in during their spring break trip to California. The Panthers defeated Cal.-Lutheran 7-0, topped Chapman 6-1 and defeated Claremont 7-0. Middlebury's only loss came to an NAIA school, Vanguard, by a score of 6-1.
Four singles players earned 3-0 records on the western trip. Juniors Brian Waldron (Rye, N.Y.) and Ari Beilin (Hamilton, Mass.), along with sophomore George Mayer (Merion, Pa.) and first-year Salih Unsal (Gerrads Crossing, England) each won all three of their singles matches. Seniors Alex Meditz (Arlington, Va.) and Justin Ingoglia (N. Caldwell, N.J.) both picked up a pair of wins on the trip.
In doubles action, Mayer and sophomore Kevin Bergesen (Beverly, Mass.) along with Beilin and sophomore Alex Scott (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) each went 3-0 in doubles action. Waldron and Ingoglia won a pair of doubles matches on the week.
