Swim Teams Open Season

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams opened up their season with a dual match at Connecticut College. The women defeated Conn. 213-81, while topping Tufts 199-101. The men defeated Conn. 143-129, while falling to Tufts 168-101.

Four different Middlebury women won a pair of events on the day. Sophomore Sara Cowie (N. Palm Beach, Fla.) won the 500 free (5:16.82) and the 1000 free (10:50.58), while classmate Marika Ross (Shorewood, Wis.) won the 100 fly (59.65) and the 200 fly (2:12.15). Senior McKenna Moreau (Canton, N.Y.) was a victor in the 100 back (1:02.93) and the 200 back (2:14.40), while rookie Catherine Suppan (Burlington, Vt.) was a victor in the 100 breast (1:08.94) and 200 breast (2:30.88). Sophomore Alanna Hanson (Golden Bridge, N.Y.) won both the 1M (238.05) and 3M (234.60) diving competitions, first-year swimmer Libby Brush (Pittsford, N.Y.) won the 200 IM (2:16.17), while rookie Cornelieke Lammers (Hingham, Mass.) earned a win in the 200 free (2:01.01).

On the men's side, senior diver Tristram Arscott (Atherton, Calif.) captured both the 1M (254.85) and 3M (216.17) competitions on the day. Sophomore Peter Bell (Deerfield, Mass.) was a winner in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.24), while junior Tim Lux (Sandy Hook, Conn.) won the 200 breaststroke (2:16.27).
