The Middlebury College women's volleyball team got its season off to a great start as they played second overall, earning a 4-1 record at the Potsdam Invitational.

In the season-opener, Middlebury picked up a 3-0 win over the host school. Sophomore Lacee Patterson (Aspen, Colo.) paced the offense with a dozen kills, while adding 12 digs. Junior Jamie Wong (San Francisco, Calif.) led the defense with 19 digs, while senior Laurie Wollin (Colleyville, Texas) dished out 26 assists.

The Panthers picked up a 3-1 win over Russell Sage in their second match of the tourney. Senior Katy Hicks (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the team with 13 kills, while Patterson added 12. Wong earned 31 digs, Patterson collected 22, while Wollin had 38 assists.

On day two, Middlebury rolled to another 3-0 win as they topped St. Lawrence. Hicks and Patterson led the offense with seven and six kills respectively. Patterson paced the defense with 16 kills, while Wong had 13 and junior Georgia Jolink (Austin, Texas) had 10.

Plattsburgh lost a 3-1 decision to Middlebury in a semifinal match-up. Senior Sydney Hartsock (Snohomish, Wash.) and junior Jackie Edwards (Oakland, Calif.) led the squad with 11 kills apiece, while Hicks added 10. Wong (26), Hartsock (22) and Patterson (21) were the digs leaders, while Wollin had 36 assists.

In the final match of the weekend, Middlebury fell to Clarkson, 3-1. Patterson and Hicks each had a dozen kills, while Wong had 14 digs. Wollin earned 41 assists in the match as Patterson was named to the all-tournament team.
