5/12/04 - Middlebury advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the second consecutive year, with a 4-0 win over Trinity of Texas. The Panthers will take on defending national champion Emory on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the NCAA semifinals. The matches are taking place at Bates College in Maine.
Middlebury began the day on the right foot by capturing the doubles point. Ari Beilin and Alex Scott were 8-4 winners in the #2 slot, as were Nate Edmunds and Brian Waldron at #3. The #1 singles team of George Mayer and Justin Ingoglia were trailing 7-4 when their match was stopped.
In singles action, Edmunds had little trouble in the #1 slot as he picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win. Beilin was a straight-set winner at #3, 6-2, 6-3, while Ingoglia earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at #5. Middlebury had won the first set of all the other three singles matches, which were suspended after the match had been decided.
