Middlebury elected its chapter of Phi Beta Kappa during a ceremony held over the weekend, with 11 student-athletes joining the prestigious group.

ABOUT MIDDLEBURY'S CHAPTER

• Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest honors society for the liberal arts.
• Middlebury's chapter can elect up to 10 percent of the senior class each year.
• Phi Beta Kappa's most identifiable symbol is the key, an important piece of the society developed in its early days. Middlebury owns one of the oldest keys still in existence, which belonged to the first president, Jeremiah Atwater.
