Three members of the Middlebury men's and women's track and field programs represented the navy and white during the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
HIGHLIGHTS
- In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Owen Johnson competed in the championship final after a strong qualifying effort on Thursday. The senior claimed 10th with a time of 9:13.23.
- Lily Haskins-Vaughan competed in the high jump. The rookie cleared 1.59 meters on her initial attempt to finish in a tie for 17th.Â
- In the decathlon, Caleb Smith was in 17th place after day one and competed in the 110 hurdles and discus before retiring. He logged a season-best performance of 35.41m during the discus.

- Based on his finish in the championship final, Johnson secures his first All-American laurel.

The Panthers close the three-day invite with four events on Saturday. Benjamin Hughes kicks off action in the 1,500 championship final at 1:30 p.m., while Joey Caspar looks to take home the crown in the 400 hurdles (3:25 p.m.) Rookie Claire Palmer is set to compete in the 5,000 at 5:00 p.m. before the men's 4x400 quartet of Wyatt Lawton, Emerson Kington, Lachlan Bishop and Caspar close out the meet at 6:00 p.m.
