Strong Second Round Keeps #10 Middlebury in Top Six at Nationals

Cailyn Park climbed 23 spots on the second day of competition.

The #10 Middlebury women's golf team shaved six strokes off its opening-round score with a 292 during the second day of the NCAA Championship in California. The Panthers, who played on the Firecliff course, currently slot sixth with a 36-hole score of 590. Defending champion and top-ranked Emory leads the field (582), while #2 Carnegie Mellon (586) and #3 New York University (587) are second and third.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ella Han had a stellar second round, firing a two-under 70 to slide up seven spots. She shares fourth place with four other golfers with a two-day score of 142.
  • Sitting tied for 15th is Julia Hua. The rookie fired a one-over 73 and had 14 holes at par or better.
  • The third Panther in the second round was Season Wei, who rose 34 spots after firing a 73 and shaved six strokes off her initial outing. She shares 50th with multiple competitors.
  • Cailyn Park shot a 76 to climb 23 slots, while Elizabeth Whalen had a 77 during the second round.

NOTES

  • The Panthers had eight birdies combined in the round, headlined by three apiece from Han and Hua.
  • Han set new round (70) and 36-hole (142) career lows. 
  • Middlebury is making its sixth appearance on the national stage.

The Panthers return to action for the third round of the national invite and are scheduled to play on the Firecliff Course on Thursday. Action kicks off at 10:00 a.m. EST.
