The 4x800 relay quartet of Benjamin Hughes, Zach Utz, Lachlan Bishop and Cameron Miles (L to R) set a program and meet record on Saturday.
The Middlebury men's track and field team logged several strong showings during competition at the Division III New England Championships, headlined by a meet record in the 4x800-meter relay.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The victorious Panther grouping of Zach Utz, Lachlan Bishop, Cameron Miles and Benjamin Hughes clocked a 7:35.05, setting a new program and meet record.
- Adam Ferreira showcased a 54.33-meter hurl on his third attempt in the javelin to secure fourth place.
- In the 1,500, Benjamin Prestes grabbed fifth place by crossing the line in 4:01.56. He climbed seven spots from 13th during the race.
- Fresh off a NESCAC title in the high jump, Toby Warmack cleared the bar at 1.92m on his first attempt to tie for fifth alongside Keene State's Troy Tenney.
- Sebastian Pantzer claimed a top-five finish of 22.41 seconds in the 200.
- On his fourth attempt, Sam Spector tossed the implement 51.22m in the hammer throw, good for the eighth-best effort in the event.
- Gavin Hetherington launched the discus 41.95m during his initial throw to finish ninth and first among all first-year athletes.
NOTES
- The 4x800 grouping reset the previous program mark (7:39.26) set by Utz, Bishop, Miles and Will Lavey last season. The clocking was also 2.33 seconds faster than Bowdoin's time in the 2024 edition.
Middlebury returns to competition next weekend at Williams' Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza (FIRE).
