The #18 Middlebury men's lacrosse team scored five of the first six goals and never looked back in a 14-8 victory over #19 St. Lawrence on Tuesday from Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Charlie O'Connor got the hosts on the board with 1:24 expired, grabbing a feed from Cooper DeMallie and connecting on a jumpshot as the possession clock expired for a 1-0 lead.
- Drew Knight answered at the 5:33 mark with a long-pole goal that skipped past Panther goalie Hayden Kern to knot the game at one apiece.
- Middlebury regained the lead about four minutes later, as Brendan Hickey fired a low-angle shot into the left panel.
- Logan White capped the opening 15 minutes with a tough-angle shot that tucked into the right side of the net off a quick flip from Ryan McGloin with one second remaining, extending the advantage to 3-1.
- DeMallie (13:09) and White (12:40) commenced the second frame with consecutive goals 29 ticks apart to make the score 5-1.
- Asa Beach cut the deficit to three on a bid that snuck into the top-right corner at the 9:32 mark.
- The Panthers kept the offense rolling, tallying three of the half's final four markers to take an 8-3 lead into the locker room. White capped the jolt by muscling through three Saint defenders and depositing a shot into the left panel with 24 seconds left.
- Ethan Friedberg tried to get the Saints' attack rolling just 27 ticks into the third, cutting into the Middlebury defense and tucking the ball inside the left post for an 8-4 contest.
- The hosts embarked on another decisive run following Friedberg's tally, netting five unanswered to rebuild a 13-4 lead. Will Ford capped the spurt with a double-clutching shot that found the left panel with 6:15 left in the third.
- St. Lawrence ended the contest with four of the final five tallies, but the Panthers fended off their foe to claim the six-goal victory.
NOTES
- White's seven goals are the most scored in a game since 2019. The senior's output also places him in a tie for second in single-contest program history.
- Kern secured his 45th win in net and stopped 12 shots. It is his seventh performance of the campaign with north of 10 saves.
- Ryan Colella and Drew Dummer tied for the team lead with three caused turnovers.
- Bradford Tudor logged his first goal as a Panther.
- Middlebury and St. Lawrence battled for the 23rd time, as the navy and white secured their 10th win in the series.
The Panthers hit the road for the final time in the regular season, traveling to Maine to battle Colby on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
