#17 Bowdoin Snaps Six-Match Winning Streak For #11 Women’s Tennis

The 11th-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak end in Maine after a hard-fought 4-3 setback to #17 Bowdoin in Sunday's regular-season finale.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ren Barton and Diya Pachamuthu commenced the match with a 6-1 victory at #3 to give the Panthers a head start toward the doubles point.
  • The duo of Lulu Wu and Ananya Annapantula went back and forth with the Polar Bear pairing of Suzanne Pogorelec and Cara Hung in the second slot. After a split of the first 12 sets, Wu and Annapantula rallied from a four-point deficit with seven consecutive tallies to grab the match (7-6 (7-4)) and a 1-0 lead for the visitors.
  • Anna Lardner and Elsie Van Wieren grinded out a 7-6 (7-4) win in the top flight to close doubles action.
  • Pachamuthu cruised in her match at the bottom of the lineup, sweeping Willow Assante-LaBash (6-3, 6-2) for the second Middlebury point.
  • The final five singles matches were all three-frame marathons. At #2, Lardner grabbed the initial frame by a 6-4 margin before Pogorelec countered with 6-2 and 6-3 victories to cut the Panther lead in half.
  • Wu dug out a 7-6 (7-5) result in the first session of her battle against Bella Hartung in the third slot. The Polar Bear rallied, securing the next two sets by 6-3 and 6-2 scores, respectively, to knot the contest at 2-2.
  • In the top spot, Van Wieren and Hung split the opening frames before a 6-4 decision in the decisive third (6-2, 5-7, 6-4) pushed the navy and white back ahead by one.
  • Charlotte McCann rallied from a 6-0 loss in the opener with a 6-2 victory to arrange a three-set battle against Caroline Stuhlfaut. The two competed in the third, but Stuhlfaut came out on top with a 7-6 (7-5) result.
  • In the final match of the battle at #4, Zoe Sun logged a 7-6 (7-5) win before Barton countered with a 6-3 frame. Sun grabbed the momentum in the final session, cruising to a 6-1 victory to grab the thrilling win.
