Four Panthers Set to Compete at NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships

Four Panthers will represent Middlebury at the upcoming NCAA Championships.
Four members of the #25 Middlebury women's swimming and diving team have been selected to compete at the NCAA Championships. The four-day competition begins on Wednesday, March 18 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

ABOUT MIDDLEBURY
  • The Panthers make their 29th appearance on the national stage.
  • Middlebury has finished in the top 25 at the NCAA Championships 18 times and garnered top-10 showings on seven occasions, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in 1997.
  • The program has combined for 13 competitors who represented the navy and white over the last three national meets.
PANTHERS TO WATCH
  • Anna McGrew will compete in both the 50-yard and 100 freestyle events. The Panther is seeded third in the 50, sporting her school-record and NESCAC-winning time of 22.73 seconds. McGrew's 100 time (51.08) sits 28th and is six-tenths of a second off the 10th-fastest clocking in the field.
  • Making her first appearance at the NCAA Championships will be Isla Johnston. The rookie is 19th in the 1,650 free, recording a 17:16.32 at the conference championship. She is also set to compete in the 200 free (1:57.12) and 500 free (5:03.88).
  • The 800 free relay quartet of Hannah Baumgartner, Lauren Jolley, Johnston and McGrew comes into the NCAA event with the 19th-best time in Division III (7:34.10). That clocking was established during the league championship.
  • Baumgartner, Jolley, Johnston and McGrew are scheduled to swim for a national title in the 200 (1:35.36) and 400 (3:30.15) free relays.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
  • Since the initial meet in 1982, only five schools have won the NCAA Championship. Kenyon leads the way with 24 titles, followed by Emory (12), Williams (two), Denison (one) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (one). The Engineers became the fifth program to take home the championship last season, scoring 497 points, while New York University (NYU) secured runner-up efforts.
  • Defending 50 free champion Kaley McIntyre of NYU returns to the field. The senior has the quickest time (22.29) coming into the meet. Four others from last winter's championship final return, looking to dethrone McIntyre. Swarthmore's Genine Collins (22.69) was third in the 2025 edition.
  • McIntyre was the victor in the 100 free and recorded an impressive top-seed clocking of 48.13 seconds. Pomona-Pitzer's Nina Aballea, who claimed a share of seventh last year,  tallied a time of 50.13 entering the meet.
  • There will be a new champion in the 1,650 free as Bowdoin swimmer Natalie Garre transferred. Kenyon's Molly Haag comes into the championships with the best time (16:40.29) in the field.
  • Seven of the top-eight 800 free relay finishers from a season ago have secured a spot on the psyche sheet. NYU leads the field with a clocking of 7:13.06, followed by Denison (7:19.14) and Williams (7:20.41).
  • In the 200 and 400 relays, 11 of the 16 top-eight placers from a season ago are scheduled to compete.
